Hating Lies, Yet Meeting the Girl Who's Best at "Acting"? Kogado Studio's S:OWLS New Title "Sugar Lies" Officially Announced!

The century-old studio Kogado Studio, after many years, welcomes a brand-new "animal team" — S:OWLS!

Along with this, S:OWLS has also brought their second title "Sugar Lies," following their debut work "The Mirror Flowers That Will Surely Wither," and it will offer on-site demos at TGS2026, held from September 17 to 21.

"Sugar Lies" will be released on Steam/Switch platforms. The Steam version supports Chinese (Simplified and Traditional)/English/Japanese at launch, is scheduled for release at the end of 2026, and the Steam store page is now public; the NS version will be released in spring 2027.

As for pricing, the Steam version and NS digital version are 2,860 yen, and the NS physical version is 4,000 yen, all tax-inclusive prices.

Story Overview

"It makes me want to vomit. In this world, lies are everywhere."

Nagatsuki Nobuto, a young man who hates lies.

Whenever he detects someone's "lies" or "acting," he feels nauseous, as if his body were rejecting it.

This man who so despises lies meets a girl even better than anyone at playing the "ideal version of herself" — Sakuramiya Yui.

The moment Nobuto saw her, he immediately understood one thing —

This was the worst possible encounter.

Judging from the setup, when even "who she is" is a performance, how can the person she falls in love with judge whether that feeling is real or fake? Can the "fake" herself ever obtain true love?

If the script can truly bring out the character concept, the finished product could turn out quite interesting.

Character Overview

Compared to the previous title's overly "stripped-down" initial release, this work finally has voice actors from the start — and two well-known ones at that: Hasegashi Ikumi and Iida Hikari. It's clear Kogado Studio is quite sincere this time.

She was once a famous child prodigy actress, raised under her actor father's strict elite education.

A childhood friend who often holes up at Nobuto's house, super does-things-her-own-way.

She has been active as a stage actress since childhood,

and is a hardcore otaku with a particular love for risqué works.

For scenario and character design, the duo of 皮商人49 and りんごぱん is retained once again.

No voice acting, and pitifully few CGs... While the previous title was poor enough that everyone complained, its story structure and presentation were anything but poor, and りんごぱん's character sprites were a major plus.

As it stands, "Sugar Lies" has indeed made up for the previous title's shortcomings in production values. As for how the "worst possible encounter" will turn around, we'll find out once it's officially released~
